Idea: YouTube or Google Video booths

I havent been very good about posting but I wanted to post this idea before I forget.

With the expansion of personal videos on the Internet, I thought why not have video booths at malls & other places like there are picture booths.

They can be placed close to areas where there is normally a high concentration of young people like close to movie theaters.

So what do you think? Could it work?

Depends.

I think in order for this to be successful one would have to define the purpose and how much equipment the booth would have to accommodate whatever the people wanted it for.

Music? Readings? Skits?

Arguably, since it's easier to do this at home and upload it I don't know if the business would last long.

Unless you target areas which don't have high speed access or much home computer usage.

That is true. It is probably easier to do it from home. I was thinking that it could attract young adults going to the movies while they're hanging out waiting for the movie to start. But then, that makes me think, how is movie theater traffic these days? I wonder if more young people are doing things online at home. Or why even be at home? With my Treo 700p for example, I can now take pictures and send them directly to Flickr, no computer necessary. I guess it should only be a matter of time before you can record a video from a smart phone or PDA and send it directly to YouTube...Actually, just did a quick search and this entirely doable now! http://www.youtube.com/mobile

So you can scratch this idea... ;-)

It still might be viable, I dunno.

A number of movie multiplexes are inside malls now, so there's a steady supply of teens. Cell phone pics/videos also don't have the best quality, depending on what you have.

This reminded me of a booth I saw at Kings Dominion where kids/families could make their own music video. This was years ago, so I don't know if it's still there.

If booths like that are still at amusement parks, it'd be interesting to see what kind of money they make. Don't know how that'd translate over to your business model, though.

Thanks for the input Anon. (I wish I knew who you were... :)

BTW, I tried to upload a video to YouTube with my Treo 700p and haven't been able to do so. No errors so I don't know what's wrong...

Maybe there's still a chance to get acquired by YouTube, I mean Google... Let's see if anyone grabs the idea and runs with it!

Hello,

Seen these video booths a year or two ago. http://www.gabzebo.com

Good idea, but has been done. I think the key is interactivity.
